The SolidWorks Simplify tool is used to generate simplified configurations of sub-assemblies, to then be used on top level assemblies to help improve performance.

Glad see see this tool explained, I think it could be of some real use. it would be interesting to quantify how much of a performance improvement you can make on large assemblies. 10%, or 50% faster? I would like to see how companies are actually putting this to practice. Your example might have been more applicable had you shown the simple gear assembly inside a gearbox, that was then shown attached to a high level machine. I asume the need to see details like teeth on gears would be seldom when looking at the machine level.
